Installation of Greek fonts & keyb driver for MS-Win 3.x & Netscape

If you want greek on your X-Windows or Mac then try www.sae.gr or www.hri.org which are more complete that this. This page is here to provide quick access for people in .ac.uk or other parts of europe where access in the .gr domain is "a bit" slow.

Installation of Greek fonts on your Microsoft Windows 3.x

Instructions

Part 1: download the fonts

Hold down the shift key before clicking on any of the file links below, and save them to your filestore in a temporary directory.

Greek fonts

After you download at least one of the above files, open an ms-dos prompt window on your computer. Change to the temporary directory where you saved the files and run them (i.e. type hel_font. The fonts will now be extracted into your temporary directory. Exit from the ms-dos window and run the Control Panel. Choose fonts and then Add. Change to the temporary directory where you extracted the new fonts, and click on Select All and the OK. After this the new Greek fonts are installed in your system and you may close the Control Panel.

Part 2: Netscape re-configuration
Load Netscape and choose Options/Preferences/Fonts. Then Choose Proportional Font to be Arial Greek or Avant Greek or Times Greek. Then click on OK and finally choose Options/Save Options.

Now you are able to read the Greek newspapers that are available on the Internet - currently to the best of my knowledge:

Makedonia - Thessaloniki On-Line
TA NEA - LAMBRAKIS PRESS S.A.
"E" on-line
Athens News Agency (ANE)
Macedonian Press Agency
Hellas News - by Hellenic News Agency

Very interesting links about Greece!

If you also want to write greek, then download a program available here in both 16-bit and 32-bit versions for use with Windows 3.1/3.11 or Windows for Workgroups made by Angelo Haritsis.
